The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, situated on a Piti Aau Motu, a barrier-reef coral island, was the first hotel in French Polynesia to place villas literally over the water, standing on stilts between the ocean and lagoon. Opened in May 2006, the resort features an eco-friendly air-conditioning system harnessing cold deep-sea water extracted from the Pacific Ocean.
